Amendments to legislation concerning legal status of foreign citizens and law on citizenship

Vladimir Putin signed an amendment to the Federal Law, which is aimed to make it easier for highly-skilled foreigners to get employed in Russia. Another amendment will simplify the procedure to get a Russian citizenship for entrepreneurs, investors and highly-trained persons.

The full name of the documents which Russia`s President has signed are: On Amending Article 132 of Federal Law On the Legal Status of Foreign Citizens in the Russian Federation and Article 1 of Federal Law On Amending Federal Law On the Legal Status of Foreign Citizens in the Russian Federation.

The first amendment is aimed at simplifying procedures for employing on Russia’s territory highly-trained foreign experts for Russian organisations operating in the field of information technology, as well as foreign journalists working for media outlets established specifically to disseminate information in foreign languages.

The amendment of article number 1has the aim to simplify procedures for the adoption of Russian Federation citizenship by foreign nationals and stateless persons living on Russia’s territory who are entrepreneurs, investors, highly-trained experts and graduates of Russian institutions of higher education.

The simplification of procedures also concerns foreign nationals and stateless persons permanently residing on Russia’s territory and recognised native speakers of the Russian language in accordance with the Federal Law On Russian Federation Citizenship.
